Department of Anesthesiology at UF
Clinical Caseload
Residents in training at the University of Florida are exposed to the entire spectrum of anesthesia care. The complexity of surgery ranges from simple outpatient procedures conducted at Florida Surgical Center to the most complex tertiary and quaternary intracranial neurosurgical cardiothoracic, or organ transplant procedures conducted at Shands Hospital. Our training program uses multiple training sites within the University of Florida Health Science Center as well as several affiliated sites (TABLE 1). Because we offer such diverse clinical experiences, residents completing the program are exposed to a balanced clinical curriculum including all major clinical areas. The average clinical case experience from which our residents gain their experience is shown in TABLE 2. Despite the size of the program that allows these diverse clinical experiences, many residents feel the congenial, family-like atmosphere within the department is one of its most attractive features.
