2.    Patient Care: Procedural

Learning Objectives:

§         Demonstrate ability to perform pre-anesthetic evaluation

§         Demonstrate ability to perform subarachnoid block placement

Learning Activity:

§         Manikin-based practice

§         Instruction and practice under the direction of faculty and housestaff during clinical activities

3.    Medical Knowledge: Core Discipline

Learning Objectives:

§         Preoperative evaluation of the pregnant patient including medical condition, physical status, airway examination, appropriate preoperative testing and the impact of anesthesia on their delivery.

§         Anesthetic options for labor and cesarean delivery

§         Neuraxial block details including anatomy, needle selection, procedure, choice of local anesthetic and additives, and hemodynamic effects

§         Pharmacology of vasoactive medications in the obstetric patient

§         Fluid management in cesarean delivery.

§         Post-operative pain management.

§         Independent study using recommended textbook

§         Discussion with faculty and housestaff during clinical activities

4.    Medical Knowledge: Problem Solving
