ECFMG Position on J-1 visa Sponsorship in ACGME Approved and Non-ACGME Approved Programs

International Medical Graduates training in our residency program under the ECFMG Exchange Visitor Sponsorship Program (EVSP), J-1 visa, are eligible for post-residency training in any ACGME-approved fellowship program in Anesthesiology, provided the total duration of training does not exceed 7 years.  These fellowship training programs include Adult Critical Care Medicine, Pain Management, and Pediatric Anesthesia. 

In addition, ECFMG recognizes the following non-ACGME approved subspecialty training disciplines: 

Non-Standard Subspecialty Disciplines

The member boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) are viewed as the subject matter experts on educational developments within their respective medical specialties. The following list outlines those non-standard disciplines currently recognized by ABMS boards for the purpose of J-1 sponsorship.  All questions pertaining to board policies, procedures, and additional non-standard disciplines should be forwarded to the specific ABMS boards.
