Courtesy of the hard of work of Felipe Urdaneta, M.D., and his team, we now have available a very valuable PDA Resource for Anesthesiology Residents.

If you have wireless access with your PDA (wi-fi or via cell phone and either Pocket PC or Palm), set up a bookmark in your browser to:

http://gaps.anest.ufl.edu/uncompressed/start.html

This site is the introductory page to the entire program, and you should have full access to all materials on the site.  Materials available include:

1. ACC/AHA Guidelines for Cardiac Evaluation for Non-Cardiac Surgery

2. ACC/AHA Echocardiography Guidelines for Evaluation of Patients with Valvular Heart Disease

3. ACC/AHA Guidelines for Endocarditis Prophilaxis

4. ACC/AHA Indications for Preoperative Tests

5. ASA Guidelines for Preoperative Fasting

6. ASA Standards on Basic Intraoperative Monitoring

7. ASA Difficult Airway Algorithm

8. Basic Guidelines to Platelet Active Drugs

9. Malignant Hyperthermia

10. Useful Formulas/Medical Calculator

For those of you who do NOT have wireless access, you will need to use the AvantGo program, a free program available on the web for both Pocket PC and Palm Platforms.  You will need to go to www.avantgo.com and download / install the version of the program appropriate for your device.  Once you have installed the program on your desktop computer and on your device, you can set up a channel which will download the GAPS program to your computer.  You will also need to set up an account on the AvantGo web site.  You do not need to set up a paid account.  The free account is more than adequate to experience full use of the GAPS software.  Once you have created an account, you will want to create a custom channel.  The page for this is reproduced at this link and already completed for you.  You will want to set up the channel exactly as is shown.  Once done, save the channel and hotsync your device.  The GAPS program will be on your Palm or Pocket PC device and you can use all the features just as if you had wireless access.
