Automatic Cancellation of Orders

1. All Previous orders, except Do Not Ressuscitate (DNR) orders, are canceled when patients go to surgery.

a. A physician member from the surgical team and an anesthesiologist form the anesthesia team shall discuss the status of a previously written DNR order with the patient and/or surrogate, if one has been appointed, prior to the perioperative period and determine the status of the DNR order during surgery. Appropriate documentation shall be made.

b. If the attending physician and the patient/surrogate cannot agree about the status of the DNR order, then the procedure for conflict resolution outlined in CP2.12 "Do Not Resuscitate" Orders should be followed.
