Anesthesiology Housestaff Manual
Prepared by Michael E. Mahla, MD, and the Faculty and Administration of the Department of Anesthesiology
This on-line housestaff manual is made available to you 24 hours a day from our website. It will always be up-to-date. This housestaff manual is for use by the core Anesthesiology training program, the Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program, and the Pain Management Fellowship Program. Whenever a change is made to any policy or procedure, you will receive an e-mail indicating that you need to check this web page for changes. You can then print the changed policy and insert it into your printed housestaff manual you received when you arrived here at the University of Florida. For your convenience, the manual has been broken up into sections as shown by the links below. Click on the section you would like to review. Sections marked with an * are subject to frequent changes. Please check often.

The ACGME would like housestaff in residency training programs to be more aware of its various functions that impact importantly on their training. The ACGME has sent out an open letter to residents in training program across the country to help accomplish this. The letter can be viewed here or on the ACGME Web Site. Please take the time to read this important document.

UpToDate Online is now available to users from the University of Florida and Shands Hospital (Access from the VA is already available). UpToDate is specifically designed to answer the clinical questions that arise in daily practice and to do so quickly and easily so that it can be used right at the point of care. The physician editors and authors review and update the content on a continuous basis and a new, peer-reviewed version is issued every four months. Published evidence is summarized and specific recommendations are made for patient care. A permanent link to this resource will be in Section III - Clinical Care section of the Housestaff Manual and in the Frequently Accessed Links. A Users Guide is also available with the permanent links below.
