Jeopardy: At the conclusion of every teaching block, six resident
teams compete in a Jeopardy game based on the lectures in the teaching block.
Based on lecture content and on the ABA content outline for each topic,
jeopardy style questions are composed and divided into categories as on the
original television game. The team with the most points at the end of an
academic year is treated to a dinner at a local restaurant. There are 12-14
jeopardy games in addition to final playoffs at the end of each year. I am
responsible for coordinating all Jeopardy activities.
Resident Review Seminars: Based on the results of annual in-training
examinations, topics are identified where our residents performed below the
national average. I assign two-to-three of these topics to each resident and
the resident prepares a one-page handout (in a specific editorial format) on
the topic. I edit these handouts and they are published in a booklet each May
to assist the residents in studying for the next examination. I am responsible
for conducting mock public oral examinations during the 3rd and 4th
Thursday of each month of the academic year except July and August. These
examinations are designed to teach residents performance strategies for the ABA
Oral Examination and to actually provide teaching material on the identified
topics.
